Northumberland county Historical Society sits on top of the remains of Fort Augusta, which was built as protection for colonists agains the french & their indian allies during the Seven Years War. later, it served as an ammerican base, that helped protect & aid settlers in the region against british & indian attacks in the Revolutionary War. The gunpowder magazine still stands. The hunter house is open to the public and is basically a museum that deals with erily settlements in the area.
